Pineapple Prep

Bought a pineapple on a whim at the weekend for the kids and now realise that i have no idea how to prepare it.

Is there a recognised way to do it - or do i just have to hack away at it and hope for some scraps of fruit at the end of it?

I though it would be the same process as coring an apple, but i now realise that there is a (ahem) slight difference in size and that maybe my apple-corer is not up to the task at hand.

Chop the top off and the bottom. Then cut the skin off in slices from top to bottom. Then if you wnat you can cut the 'eyes' out with v shaped slices on the surface iyswim. Then cut into quarters lenghtwise and cut the core out of the centre. hth.

I do love pineapple

I just top and tail them, then stand on its end and cut off the outsides (ie by slicing down). Once all the 'skin' is off, I cut into quarters length ways and then cut off the 'core triangle' of each quarter. This leaves four strips of pineapple that I cut into smaller pieces and store in a container in the fridge ready to eat at any time.

hope this helps

Well - i hacked away at it by topping and tailing it then slicing the skin off and then cutting it into quarters as was suggested and it worked a treat!

It tasted bloody delicious.

Is there such a thing as a pro pineapple corer? I still reckon i could do a better job of it and lose less if i treated it the same as an apple.......

You can get pineapple cutters which skin, core and slice into one long sprial , see here . I have one which dh gave me but am not strong enough to use it! Find cutting by hand doesn't take long anyway, but if dh is around he likes to use the gadget for it.

Did you boil up the skin in hot water? It makes yummy tea!
