I've come over all Martha Stewart and am going to attempt to make my DS's 2nd birthday cake (god help me!) but suddenly realised in all the meticulous cake planning that I have completely neglected to think about party food. Does anybody have any good suggestions? I know the kids will eat about a tenth of anything I make and the adults will get to hoover it up but I need some inspiration...

it's my dd's 4th birthday on thursday and eeek the guest list has expanded greatly....from 25 to 40!!!
i'm doing similar food to the last 2 years which will be:
sandwiches-choice of egg/ham/jam/tuna
hot dog sausages and cocktail sausages
crisps/quavers/bread sticks/raisins
cheese+pineapple, cheese and cherry tomatoes on cocktail sticks
fruit kebabs on plastic skewers using strawberry, kiwi and peach
chocolate mini rolls and biscuits
fairy cakes lovingly decorated by the very excited birthday girl
jellies-found some nice plastic bowls in wilkinsons but last year used cups!!
Luckily my mum is coming to visit tomorrow and has volunteered to get up early and make the sandwiches on thursday morning!!!!
pass the parcel already wrapped, party bags made(we're using two cakes so most of the bags will be fully made with cake in before the party)
tonight's job is to put the childrens names on the 'pin the tail on the donkey' and sort out the music
ps: i'm only entertaining the children for the first half hour and then we have cheeky charlie the clown for the next two hours.....it's the first time we have had an entertainer but it was dd's choice and she's so EXCITED already

Hope you have good fun......I love birthday parties

We ordered pizza. Enjoyed by children and adults alike. (And easy )

Wow chatee, you put me to shame but have also given me loads of ideas, thanks.

Hadn't thought of pizza either Kateandthegirls - good idea, think I might incorporate that too as the adults always say they're not hungry but end up circling like vultures after the kids have finished!

I did:
Cubes of cheese on sticks
Little nuggets of fresh turkey on sticks
Chunks of sweetcorn with butter (each cob cut in 3)
Sausages (mini - vegetarian)
Cream cheese sandwiches
Marmite sandwiches
Cakes
Strawberries

And grapes, and Ice cream Cones and lollies - but forgot to get them out.

And a cheese and tomato tart thing for adults.

Everything except the sarnies got eaten.
