We DID have choco stuff but now have boxes of Cheerios, Shreddies and Rice Crispies.

He doesn't like porridge before anyone goes there.

What are the healthiest cereals.

Wheetabix isn't bad, medium salt and a bit sweet but otherwise OK

1dilemma · 10/06/2007 00:46

Rice crispies I think are a bit sweet, and I did hear that Cheerios in US are good but in UK loaded with sugar.

Twinklemegan · 10/06/2007 00:46

Please don't anyone come back on that and say Weetabix is crap or we'll be stuffed.

Shredded wheat are pretty much the only big brand with no salt/sugar, but they are made by the evil empire...

robinpud · 10/06/2007 00:48

high in sugar low in fibre- cheerios shreddies and rice krispies and most of them

ok in fibre but still high in sugar
bran flakes

ok fibre and sugar
weetabix and a kelloggs one called ?balance or fitness

deceptively high in sugar
special k

Mine love cereal- hate porridge- it's a nightmare. and as we are in oz they are much more expensive.

MissTea4Me · 10/06/2007 00:48

Grape nuts? Kind of a you love 'em or you hate 'em one though.

robinpud · 10/06/2007 00:49

ooh- forgot about the salt issue which complicates it further.

fruit shoot and cheesy wotsits anyone?

MissTea4Me · 10/06/2007 00:52

Or muesli? Or is that skating too close to the dreaded porridge?

UCM · 10/06/2007 00:53

I would like to have continued with Cheerios, but cannot as I support the Nestle Ban.

Maybe I should make my own granary stuff. The kids will hate it though.

robinpud did you know cornflakes plus milk is as salty as seawater?

1dilemma · 10/06/2007 01:00

trouble is I think shredded wheat tastes like eating little tiny doormats!

robinpud · 10/06/2007 01:09

tired1mamma- it doesn't surprise me. I am currently weaning dd of a 6 year cheerio habit and spending far too long reading cereal packets. really I think they are all crap and maybe egg and bacon would be better!

robinpud · 10/06/2007 01:10

Balance is ok and I think guardian is not too bad.
My own favourite is coco pops sadly!
