quick q - about scones

me and dd made some scones which i kind of left in abit too long

however, i have run out of self raising flour. can i make scones with plain flour with some bicarb of soda in or not? tia

Not bicarb - they will turn green, use baking powder, not sure of the ratio though most cookery books will have a relevant table.

only recipe I can find using plain flour is for rock cakes where they use 8oz plain flour with 2 level tps of bicarb or baking powder.

you want to try these ones - they not really vile - just a bit dry cos we kneeded them bit too much and i cooked them a bit too long!
