Finger Foods, no nashers!

Ds1 had three teeth at 5 and half months so I gave him carrot sticks e.t.c. with finger foods. Ds2 now 6 months has no teeth, I give him a bit of rusk as a finger food to nosh on while I hold it. But should I give him carrot/cucumber sticks or should I wait till his teeth come through so he has something to break down. What else can I give him apart from bread and rusks, Thanks

DD has only just got two teeth now, and she's 9 mths so I know where you are coming from!

I gave her

grated cheese
cherry tomatoes cut big enough to pick up, but too small to stick
cucumbers cut in sticks with the skin still on, so she could only gum a little bit off at a time
ditto with melon
well cooked pasta (we use fast cook fuselli from sainsburys as it seems to cook very soft)

HTH

moosh banana is the best thing realy they dont need teeth for that any soft fruit or steemed veg are also good

Hi Moosh ...
DD is 6 months and has no teeth and she will suck a piece of toast to death . She also will suck and pretty much eat a rich tea biscuit. Lightly steamed carrot sticks are a favourite too as raw ones are too hard to do much for her.

Ds managed to suck rice cakes to oblivion with no teeth. But he wouldn't eat the baby ones, only the massive ones!!

Thanks guys that is a good start for him. Sometimes I am so thick I didn't even think of bananas or lightly steaming carrot sticks, must be my " knackered mum brain ! Ds1 would chomp through anything so I never softened anything at all. Hopefully my second little man will start getting nashers soon!

Ghosty - you are doing well. My dear Mum was feeding my DD sherry trifle when she was 7 months old "but it goes down so nicely... and she likes it..." Stick to the carrot sticks and rich tea bic-bics!

Rich tea finger biscuits are good, as they can holdt them, and cheaper and less sugar (ithink) than rusks.

DD didn't get any teeth until 13 months but had all kinds of food as finger food from about 5/6 months onwards. You'd be suprised at what those tough gums can chew away on. At 8 months she had a full Christmas dinner complete with steak, veggies and yorkshire pud - all without teeth.

Try out different things and be close by in case of any incidents, but don't let no teeth put you off trying anything. Have fun :)

Same as Hulababy really. Have you felt your baby's gums? Like razors!
