I am cooking 20 jacket potatoes tomorrow. How do I do this is the oven? How long do I need to put them on for? do I wrap them in silver foil? thanks

i normally stab mine with a fork a few times so they dont explode, wrap them in foil and cook them in the oven on 150 for about 3 hours. they are nice and soft then

or if you like the skins crispy, put all spuds in a bowl and shake over some oil and salt and swish around - saves the 'mare of wrapping each by hand... I tend to put my spuds on 200 for about an hour and a bit... but no idea how long 20 would take!

They will cook a little quicker if you stick them on a skewer, and you can fit two or three on each skewer. This makes them easier to take out of the oven too, when they are done.

you can always pre cook them and warm them up too.

just to be nosey, are you having a party joanneg?

throckenholt · 19/08/2004 13:51

just prick them with a fork a couple of times, bung them in the oven, fairly hottish - say gas mark6/7, or about 200, cook for about 1.5 hours.

If you don't have a fan then swap them around after a while - the top of the oven is hotter.

Or just cheat and cook them in the microwave and then put them in the hot oven to crisp up the skin. Very hot oven for about for about 20 minutes would do the trick.

No-one with now the difference.

Agree with Emma, they taste exactly the same if you crisp them in the oven after microwaving.
