There's something fishy about this fish?

I bought a piece if Lemon Sole and as it was a bit big i froze half and cooked the rest. I have taken the frozen half out the freezer and defrosted it but the fish looks slightly green? Is it ment to look like this? It was in the freezer for over a month but it couldn't have gone mouldy surely as it was frozen? Should i chuck it as it is for my DD?

PinkTulips · 30/05/2007 15:33

3 votes for the bin....just too risky with fish.

I am wondering how it managed to turn green?

if it smells okay I would eat it.

Kathyis6incheshigh · 30/05/2007 15:36

I had a chicken that went green and was definitely off, but that wasn't in the freezer and it smelled awful.

If it smells ok after defrosting I would probably eat it - off fish would smell off.

Was it properly wrapped by the way or could it have come into contact with something else that made it change colour?

scatterbrain · 30/05/2007 15:37

Bin it and then wonder !!

We had something go green in the freezer once - turned out it had been up against a bag of peas and a load of ink had rubbed off on it - or on it's clingfilm more precisely !

Backtobasics · 30/05/2007 15:39

It was wrapped in a polethene bag. It does smell very fishy, i don't know if thats normal cause i hardy ever cook fish and i usually cook it with breadcrumbs on.

If you cook it, will you enjoy eating it, or be worried that you'll all be ill ? I wouldn't do it. Even if I knew why it had gone green!

Backtobasics · 30/05/2007 15:42

I've binned it, it's not worth the upset!

Fresh fish doesn't smell very fishy - it sounds like somehow it has gone off, though goodness knows how!

PinkTulips · 30/05/2007 15:45

fish only smels fishy when it's gone off.

fresh fish smells of water.

Backtobasics · 30/05/2007 15:48

Oh my god i have just remembered something and i think i have solved the mystery! About 2 or 3 weeks ago dp didn't shut the freezer door properly and everything went 'frosty' so we had to take everything out, put it into the freezer in the shed and completly defrost the freezer until we could put the stuff back in. I bet thats how it went funny!

That'll be it !!! DH's are good at not closing freezers properly it would seem !

Backtobasics · 30/05/2007 16:04
