mayonnaise - only if "fresh" and made with raw egg. I personally ate my own home made tiramisu with tons of raw (in date, well stored) eggs and lived to tell the tale.

liver - too much vitamin A they say now, but when I had DD 12 yrs ago, they positively encouraged eating it for the iron.

soft cheese - they mean unpasturised and/ or mould aged cheeses like Brie. Again, I ignored.

Peanuts - have only ever heard you should avoid peanuts if there is a history of peanut allergy in the family. Some pregnant women seem to live on peanut butter for 9 months...

Lavender - some websites say that you shouldn't use if you have a history of miscarriage. Otherwise it's a great one for pregnancy.

As everyone has said, common sense prevails.

There is a lot of rubbish advice out there. One woman I know was told that she must avoid shellfish at all costs ( bit of a pain since prawns are full of things that are good for you) but that she could eat as much brie as she liked.

As everyone has said, it's about being sensible. I know one woman who basically lived on baked potates for 9 months for "hygeine reasons" .

Personally I found the best source of information to be this page which is at least based on some research and won't leave you unable to eat anything nice.
