shepherds pie before because I don't really eat red meat but I need a recipe suitable for 7 month old ds that would also be suitable for us at teatime. Must be freezable. I have organic lamb mince (shudder)

Sorry, not very good with actual recipes but this is how I make it:

Fry off chopped onion and chopped carrots; add meat and fry until cooked; add herbs (I use parsley); add a dash of Worcestershire sauce; add a touch of (proper) lamb stock (or veg stock). I sometimes add a tea spoon of tomato puree too. Cook on the hob (about 20 minutes) and then put in casserole dish.

Boil potatoes; drain, add butter and mash.

Put potatoes on top of mince and fork up.

Cook in oven until top is golden brown.

As long as the onion, carrots and mince are small enough, this should be OK for a 7 month old. Just check the Worcestershire sauce though to be sure it is suitable.

you can do. I use a touch of cinnamon too when frying the mince - children love it.

I follow the recipe printed on the mince label! You can get no added salt stock cubes (Kalo make them). If you shove your carrots in a food processor it cuts them into nice small chunks. Alternatively, grate them. You can also add other vegetables in the same way - I often add courgettes and mushrooms.

Lamb oxo cubes are on offer for 40p in asda right now.

SoupDragon · 26/05/2007 12:08

Unfortunately, Oxo are too salty for 7 month old though.

bananabump · 26/05/2007 12:11

Yeah, didn't think about that. D'oh!
