Any tomato growers out there? Advice needed

OK, so I have this great idea that I am going to start growing my own veggies, a friend of mine who has her own allotment gave me some tomato plants to set me off. Great, so I planted said plants and thought what a good idea it would be to buy some tomato plant food for them. Went off and bought the stuff, read the back to see what to do, and it says 'When the first truss is set apply once a week' WTF does that mean?!!!! I am too embarrased to ask my friend about it as don't want to look a total dork!!

think it means when the first flowers appear, but i could be very wrong, i did some last year to be honest you cant go wrong with tomatoes if i can grow them then anyone can,

Snowwonder is right. It means the first stalk full of flowers.

when the first truss is set means that small green tomatoes are starting to form on the first 'branch' to have had flowers.
