What are those pretzel-type breads called?

This is a plea to all German and Swiss mumsnetters. My friend from Chicago visited Switzerland when she was young and had what she described as soft-doughy pretzel like bread with fillings. I am sure I have had something similar in German but can't for the life of me recall what they are actually called (proper pretzels it will end up being knowing me!)

Can anyone help, is there any good websites for German or Swiss food as her mum is from there and she is quite interested (and she has made me interested now!)

I expect you mean "Brezel", which are a sort of figure-of-eight shape. If they are made from the same dough but are a more classic roll shape, they are also known as "Laugenbrötchen". Hope this is what you want.
