and ate it another time? Is this a really gross/dodgy thing to do? Just wondered as we always have so many leftovers it seems a shame to throw it all away?

agree with twiglett

vict17 · 13/08/2004 18:50

ah, in an ideal world we would order less but you know how it is But yes I think Twiglett that is a very good point and I agree it does sound gross!

never re-heat the rice or even put it in the fridge ort eat it later, it is one of the main causes of food poisining in this country

Demented · 13/08/2004 20:00

I have done it and didn't die but in restrospect I agree with Twiglett, you don't know what has been going on with it before.

vict17 · 13/08/2004 20:01

Thanks Fio - I didn't know that about rice. I thought dodgy chicken would be the main cause. I should read that fast food nation book, apparently that puts you off takeaways for the rest of your life

I've done it loads of times...and my boyfriend's lived. I've also spent plenty of time in the kitchens of restaurants and takeaways - that would put you off eating out for life. Best to just close your eyes and eat I find

JanH · 13/08/2004 21:06

um - we always stick it in the microwave for breakfast (DH) or lunch (me) next day...

JanH · 13/08/2004 21:06

curry, that is. Chinese I just plough through till there's only the plate left to lick.

dottee · 13/08/2004 21:08

Don't worry Janh - I'm saying ditto.

vict17 · 13/08/2004 21:09

JanH - yes, it was definitely Indian I was thinking about - I can never leave my Chinese

Confessions ... I had my warmed up curry for my Sunday lunch last week.

It tasted better ... and i'm still here.

Tessiebear · 13/08/2004 21:38

It is better if you heat it up till it is burning hot so it kills any bacteria apperently.

Aero · 13/08/2004 21:51

I knoew about the rice thing, but can anyone enlighten me as to what happens to it for it to cause food poisoning? Presumably it's ok to eat the pre-cooked microwave rice you can now buy.

bran · 14/08/2004 09:57

Aero, there is a rice bacteria that produces a toxin as it multiplies, so when you re-heat the rice the bacteria is killed but the toxin it has already produced remains, and that's what causes the food poisoning.

The pre-cooked rice (which tastes disgusting I think) I think is sealed while it's cooked, or while it's still hot enough to kill bacteria, and because it's sealed it remains sterile, at bit like the way tinned food works.

daisy1999 · 14/08/2004 10:01

I know you can't reheat meat more than once but does anyone know why exactly?
