Almost scared to ask, but where do fishsticks rank on the food police hierarchy of junk?

Because dd (15 months and quite particular about what she eats) seems to have taken a liking to them!

I'm talking about those crabstick things (that don't actually contain much crab) not fish fingers in case there's room for confusion.

I know they have some crap in them, but do also contain a fair bit of fish.

Would you feed them to your dc?

Ah - X posted, will take a look.

Aitch - dd sadly won't touch salmon (except to pick it up and throw it on the floor ).

e120 is carmine / cochineal

crushed beetles, or I think there is a synthetic one?

How many sticks does she eat? A child aged 1-3 is recommended to have 0.8 g of salt per day

AitchTwoOh · 21/05/2007 11:40

bummer. what's she like with fish fingers? i used to crack open the bread stuff and eat most of it myself {blush] leaving her with the actual fish.

Carmenere · 21/05/2007 11:40

Oerfer to eat crushed beatles than synthesised crap tbh, at least they are natural.

FrannyandZooey · 21/05/2007 11:40

sorry I thought your post said 0.5g per stick

bugger this I am too stupid to make any sense today

Carmenere · 21/05/2007 11:41

CSWS my considered opinion is they are A Bit Crap But Not Yet Proven To Be Appalling Crap

is the fish all slurrified? I don't understand fish

CantSleepWontSleep · 21/05/2007 11:43

Govmnt advice is up to 2g of salt per day franny (0.8g sodium).

Fish fingers, errr, throws them on the floor!
She did eat a fish curry last week, but I was needing a quick meal, so it was sauce from a jar, which prob negates the goodness of the fish!

yes I did mean sodium oh dear another mistake

they will confiscate my Hat at this rate

CantSleepWontSleep · 21/05/2007 11:44

I think that's a fair judgement Franny, and am happy with the outcome of my thread .

My work here is done

cardy · 21/05/2007 11:48

I think they are OK and I and dds do have the M&S ones occasionally. However it is very easy to make your own - mashed potatoes, poached salmon/cod/whatever fish you choose, egg, breadcrumbs, parsley (opt), you could even use tinned salmon (according to Annabel Karmel ). They can be frozen too.

wurlywurly · 21/05/2007 11:49

ds2 loves crab sticks, I dont let him have them very often tho (I cant stand the smell of them )

cardy · 21/05/2007 12:03

Whoops, sorry I misread your op, I thought you were talking about fishCAKES

pinballwizard · 21/05/2007 12:06

I love fish but I have never been tempted bythese..sort of don't understand them, do you heat them up?

potoroo · 21/05/2007 12:28

They are excellent in sushi with avocado. DS (2) and I are big fans of DH's homemade sushi.
