Just want an opinion about feeding your los.....

Recently on holiday with IL's, SIL & me were talking about what my DS eats and what her granddaughter eats and I told her that I wouldn't give my DS some of the stuff that was being given to her daughter. Well, they stayed for 2 days before our holiday and noticed that DS doesn't really eat alot. Doing the shop at the beginning of the holiday, she suggested several foods full of additives. I joked and said 'do you know JUST how many E nos in that stuff' and she just sort of laughed. When we got to the Pot noodle aisle, she asked if DS ate them. I said 'fark off no ' and she said 'well if you gave him a bit more crap he might start eating'. I am by no means a food snob. He eats sausage rolls and on ocasion McDonalds, crisps biscuits etc. But I am now wondering whether I am doing it all wrong as I make healthy dinners from scratch and don't give him processed food. He is very thin, will forgo dinner or lunch if he doesn't want it and I am seeing a paed on the 7th June.... Well??

Thank you so much for your replies. I don't feel so 'alone' now. My silly SIL let her DGD have a bottle with coke in once whilst on another holiday with us (DGD & DS were 1) and I stared in shock and I wasn't one of Moondogs converts then either. So I don't know why the feck I am listening to her. I can honestly say that she never done it again in front of me because I did say something. I had to.

franca, are you ditch by any chance? sounds like drop your describing... yum.

UCM, his eating sounds alot like dd's. will he eat things like oatcakes, raisans, dates? i give dd a constant stream of healthy munchies all day and she eats tonnes more per day now. she still only eats about 2 bites of dinner on a good day though!

UCM, I notice you make your own bread. I do a 50/50 white/wholemeal dough with pureed dried apricots in it (iron). Sounds disgusting eh?, but it just sweetens the bread a bit and it goes down very well in this house. I put choc chips in it too and mine have it as breakfast rolls.

as franca said about making the ice lollies but why not make smoothie ice lollies- blend any fruit you want and freeze. You could choose berries and bananas or anything really, but it's a great way of getting loads of fruit into them. If you were extra dedicated you could add wheatgerm to them too.

My ds loves those fruit pouches you get, mainly becuase of the novelty value. Their are several different makes and they are quite expensive but they are 100% pureed fruit- all different kinds- so a healthy snack. DS quite often has one as a drink with his main meal.
