bacon joints and slo cooker

just thought I would share this as have been meaning to try it for ages.

Last week I cooked a bacon joint in the slo cooker instead of boiling for two hours on the hob!! I covered it with cold water and switched it on auto and left it for about 7 hours. It was delicious, really tender not too salty and no watching over it to stop the pan boiling dry. Recommend it if anyone cares

I do this but use coca cola instead of water. Nigella stylee!

TinyGang · 19/05/2007 10:27

Ooh I'll try that...thank you

I got my slo cooker recently and I LOVE it!
Didn't think to use it for ham.

We really like the coca cola ham but I only do it at Christmas, which is mad really.

How much cola do you put in ? Just enough to cover joint ?

Oh and on what setting and how long ?

DeviousDaffodil · 19/05/2007 10:37

Enough to cover joint.
I think I did it for about 5-6 hrs on low.

WHAT SORT of bacon joiit did you use. I never know which ones to get.

dizzydo · 19/05/2007 14:46

Jelly, not sure I never look that closely, basically just a bacon joint (boneless) smoked. I think in sainsburys you will find it with the rasher bacon. Usually near the gammons as well. HTH
