my 5 month old ds has babyrice and fruit puree at 6pm and then wakes up screaming at 9.45 -10pm. could he have tummy ache? have tried with just puree and he seems fine but then wakes up around midnight starving hungry. should i give him sweet potato at 6pm perhaps? must it always be fruit?he still has a milk feed at 11pm

I found this with my dd. If i gave her baby rice with her puree she would get horrible wind that would wake her up. I now give her fruit at lunch time and something starchy at tea time- sweet potato and carrot or potato and broccoli are firm favourites!

My dd1 got dreadful wind from baby rice. I took a tip from on here and made my own my boling white rice until really soft and then putting it through a mouli or sieve. This filled dd up and I could use it for savoury or sweet dishes. HTH

That should be, by boiling!

gave ds sweet potato last night and he was definitely more comfortable. i couldn't believe it would give him wind, i always thought the whole point of giving baby rice was because it was easily tolerated. i'll try the mushy homemade rice - sounds like a good alternative.
what else goes nicely with sweet potato?

i sieve or mouli potato as it does go yucky in a blender
you can also blend the other items together and then add it to the potato using a fork to mix together
use baby milk to puree the potato if needed and store in little ice cube trays
