Help! My daughter is 7 months and refuses to eat anything other than weetabix and finger food like toast. It was all going well and then all of a sudden she just refused to let me feed her. I have tried giving her a sppon to hold etc but she just clamps her mouth shut and turns her head away. Has anyone experienced the same thing? I don't know what to do next and the health visitors are useless!

Perhaps she is just not ready. most babies are ready to wean between about 6-9 months I think, so I wouldn't worry about it if I were you. My dd refused evrything but breastmilk for the first 11 months (which was when she cut her first tooth), and then mainly ate raisins, fried mushrooms or toast and marmite.
I would say just let her come to it in her own time, neither of you need to be getting stressed out about it. Does she take an interest in food when you are eating? Grabbing someone elses food is a good sign of being ready for solids.
I often feel like grabbing cornetto's from people's hands as I walk down the street so I think I am ready

let her eat finger food then
you can spread loads of stuff on toast, puree fruit and veg and spread it on the toast

this is a good book

AitchTwoOh · 17/05/2007 15:35

and this if i say so myself, is an excellent resource for finger food recipes.

nailopish I wish I had another baby now so I could buy that book. it looks so cute! Might get it anyway...

nailopish · 17/05/2007 15:57

twynkle my dds are 4 and 2 and i STILL use it

MrsBadger · 17/05/2007 15:58

I'm with naily - if she wants finger food then go for it with a sigh of relief - lots less hassle for you than pureeing and spooning.

nailopish · 17/05/2007 15:58

how old is your dd?

twynkle · 17/05/2007 16:20

Could probably justify getting it for my nearly five yr old but not sure the 11 yr old would go for it!

nailopish · 17/05/2007 16:21

lol
didnt realise they were that old
you could buy it for someone else...

twynkle · 17/05/2007 16:22

Good idea - I can buy it, coo over the piccies and recipes for a bit then pass it on as a prezzie. Genius!

My dd refused to let me feed her when she got to 7 months. Hasn't ever let me since (she's 15 months now). I switched to blw (see Aitch's link). She didn't eat very much until she got to 11 months, but now eats just fine, and feeds herself with fork and/or spoon and fingers.
