They do usually have a roll/ sandwich but I have sent them with other picnic type foods before and its never been a problem.

Today they had a piece of quiche each, little pot of colesaw and a couple of cherry tomatoes and the school phoned to say they have to have sandwiches or a roll.

Asked them why and there was some mubbling about cutlery but I had put a picnic fork in like I do a plastic spoon for a yoghurt.

Did suprise me as they take something other than sandwiches at least once a week. Can anyone think of a reason why they are now stopping this because I'm a bit annoyed and the more I think about it the more pissed off I'm getting.

i think you should print all these comments and take them into school...maybe then the teacher concerned would realise how silly they are being. have never heard of anything so ridiculous!!! i bet the teachers don't have a sandwhich every day. i read somewhere that it is a breach of human rights to look in children's lunchboxes!!

whomovedmychocolate · 16/05/2007 17:25

Oh goodness, do you not know that if kids don't have sandwiches their heads explode during maths?

Better quiche than Lunchables!!!!

ChocolateFace · 16/05/2007 17:25

they say real men don't eat quiche, dont' they? Well my brother and DH bothe love quiche and they are real men.

CD, I hope the quiche was home made with orgnic eggs!

pointydog · 16/05/2007 17:26

Picket the school RIGHT NOW. Send them and their lousy sandwiches packing.

This is a disgrace and it si not what I pay taxes for.

pointydog · 16/05/2007 17:26

Have they even heard of Jamie Oliver?

Anna8888 · 16/05/2007 17:34

LOL Anchovy

Ridiculous idea to make children eat bread every day for lunch. Not nearly enough nutritional variety.

teeteringonthebrink · 16/05/2007 17:39

PMSL at Anchovy, it's brilliant

hatwoman · 16/05/2007 23:10

very good anchovy. and spot on re tongue in cheek but might actually have a point.

teeteringonthebrink · 16/05/2007 23:11

bump, because anchovy is very funny and more people need to acknowledge this fact

VeniVidiVickiQV · 17/05/2007 00:00

very good anchovy

Im also pmsl at "DS1 asked his friend who takes in 2 a day the other day, 'which part is in your mouth now? The wee wee or the eyeball? LOL"

missgriss · 17/05/2007 00:03

We really are living in an Orwellian world now, aren't we?

moondog · 17/05/2007 00:04

Er...that's not sushi Anchovy (speaking as one with Korean bil and half Korean nephews))South Koreans would be mortified if you thought they were eating Japanese food. Can't remember what it's called though. Bil makes it.Damned nice though.

As you were ladies.

SofiaAmes · 17/05/2007 05:39

Wow, wonder what they would have made of ds' favorite lunch....whole artichoke with lemon/oliveoil dipping sauce.

I have had other parents in his class thank me for sending him with delicious lunches that are healthy. Their kids have been asking for the same!!!

I am really incensed by this. Schools are there to EDUCATE children, not to monitor EVERY aspect of there lives/welfare.

OK a school should show concern if it is obvious that a child is being beaten, or physically maltreated, but not just because they don't approve of lunchbox contents, EVEN if it is a jam sandwich and a mars bar every day. For all the school know, that child may be eating super-healthy breakfast and tea under parental supervision.
It really is NOT the job of school to police our parenting.
I am still angry that I have to ask PERMISSION to take MY child out of school for a holiday or family event.

Connie, send in whatever you feel appropriate (and your choice is VERY appropriate) for lunches. If you get complained at again, write to the governors (I am a school governor BTW).

FWIW, it rather looks like the dinner lady who was charged with the task of monitoring lunches has no common sense. Mind you, at our school, such a task (if it was undertaken at all) would have been carried out by the head, who always wanders around the hall at lunchtime, it helps her to know the children better.

EnidTheInvisible · 17/05/2007 10:53

thats crap

dd1 hates sandwiches

she has couscous and chicken, I pack a fork

GrumpyOldHorsewoman · 17/05/2007 11:09

I'm with you there, clumsymum. Hate the farking school police. Lunches, holidays, uniform - it's all about doing as they tell you. Parents are not in control any more (except the ones who couldn't give a rat's arse, and they're usually the ones who could actually do with a bit of guidance).

clumsymum · 17/05/2007 12:12

azgree entirely GOH

dannylastrasse · 17/05/2007 12:14

keep on keeping on with your quiche. see if the school EXPEL him ofer a butty.
