have for the first time ever made a trifle, but the jelly didn't set as had all these frozen forest fruits in the bowl with it....just wanted to ask if the jelly has to set (as have custard and cream ready) and how the hell do you do it??

erm, we made it yesterday afternoon and it's still a little runny but there was a lot of fruit there (half a bag of Tesco's frozen summer fruits) maybe there was too many...thanks for your reply btw

thanks YorkieGirl my practical head has gone out of the window with this heat....today I nearly put the shoe polishing tin in the fridge and my wedding/engagement ring went on the wrong way around and yesterday my daughters new jeans were nearly thrown on the bin!!!I will try that and let you know the outcome

I would use less water in the jelly, the frozen fruit is adding to the amount of water and leaving it too runny, probably.

I never use jelly when I make trifle!

Best and easiest trifle in the world as follows:

packet trifle sponges (or cake)
sherry
marks n sparks custard
marks n sparks summer fruits compote
whipped cream and toasted almonds for the top

Hello sm

My mum used to make the strangest trifle. No fruit allowed, nor cream on top, no sherry or nuts either. Getting her to put custard on it was an event in itself.
