Nuts

I bet this has been discussed here before, but anyway..

How old were your children before you gave them nuts to eat? I mean whole nuts, like salted peanuts. My dd is nearly six and I thought she must be old enough now so gave her some to try - she seems to love them! (I told her it's important to chew them thoroughly).

I have always been quite strict about her not having nuts for all the usual reasons, but dh and I eat them and I wouldn't want her to avoid them forever!

We were told by specialist to wait until 7 for peanuts.

essbee - is the 7 recommendation to do with being a mum with a nut allergy (I have a brazil nut allery) so am not sure whether okay to give any nuts until 3, 7 or whenever????

My DH has a nut allergy and we were told to wait as long as possible (I guess 5+ would be realistic). Also, on a first aid course I did, we were told not to give nuts to under 5's because of the risk of choking.
