Veggie mum needs advice on what meat to give 8 mth old dd!

Well I'm not actually a proper veggie (I eat chicken and fish) but I haven't eaten red meat since I hit puberty (a wee while ago now ) so I'm stumped as to what to buy and cook for my 8 month old dd, who has just started on proteins (fish and chicken and lentils so far but ready for red meat I guess). What sort of meat is best? Can I cook it without tasting it??! Any advice welcome!

Why do you want your dd to eat it? Our dds eat fish but feel no need to give them meat. Not that they need fish either if they have a balanced vegetarian meal with protein included.

I used mince as it is dead easy. If you make up a tomato pasta sauce that you like and freeze it then you can just brown the mince (well grey it really!) and then chuck the sauce in and there'd be no need to taste it. And you can cook mince from frozen so it is a handy thing to have about.

I'm in a similar situation, chicken and fish but not red meat. I get DH (who does eat meat) to cook it instead so that DS gets red meat once or twice a week, hope this is enough . Apparently when I was a baby I loved liver (!?) but have no idea what you would do with it.

I'm a veggie but DS (13 months) and DH are not.

I cook quite a lot of chicken but try to do 1 fish and at least 1 red meat per week. We also have at least 1 veggie meal per week. Mince is easy to cook and easy to eat. DS has also had pork, venison, steak, lamb and burgers. The key seems to be in how you cook it, slowly in juices so it's quite moist works well cos it's easier to chew. I also sometimes give him things like ham in a toastie or pitta pocket - easy way to get extra red meat, but not more than twice a week cos quite salty.

I buy lean steak mince for DS and do a cottage pie with tomato puree, carrots, onion etc...I then blend it and put into cubes but I only fill the cube trays half full with the meat mixture as its very strong when blended and too much for DS..when serving it to him, I mix with a generous helping of sweet potato so that it doesn't taste too meaty! He loves it and he's still getting the protein.

Me too. clueless on cooking meat and fish! Hate touching raw meet too. Didnt know you could cook mince from frozen. Great! I confess to using jars and babylicious frozen cubes as not confident that I'm cooking meat properly.

I put the stinky meaty stuff on the inside of my wrist to test temperature - that's the only advice I have so far....
