Fresh fruit/ raw fruit at what age??

dd is 21 mths, great eater, but am struggling to get her to eat any fresh fruit as in raw fruit at all, she adores bananas, will happily eat amost any stewed fruit, but no raw fruit, she hates apples, peaches, oranges, melon, berries, basically everything I offer.
But get this she eats raw carrot, raw fresh peas, any veg at all, she even likes cooked spinach.
Is this likely to change, will she learn to like fresh fruit?
She is funny about raw tomato, she will eat it, spit it out and keep putting it back in... this convinces me she is interested...
She loves raisins, but hates dried apricots, likes dried apple but not proper apple, whether it is chopped grated or mixed with anything...
this is getting me down!
Any tips or experinces please!

I'm lucky - DD eating raw fruit in varying consistencies since 4 mnths. Now eating it by herself now - bananas, sultanas, berries, soft pear or melon at 11mnths

Maybe your DD just ain't keen on fruit but I wouldn't worry too much given the veg she likes

in yoghurt? with ice cream?

Piffleoffagus · 28/07/2004 22:32

she hates ice cream or anything cold, even her yoghurt has to be at least room temp, we can put pureed or stewed fruit or mashed nana into yoghurt but nothing else,
Given tonight she scoffed a 1/4 of an avocado I am less prone to worrying I guess!!!

dd used to eat strawberries when younger but then went off them. I keep offering small bits of apple etc to try and attract her interest, she also used to eat melon... I guess she just does not have a sweet tooth, except for chocolate!

my daughter was alot later than 21months. i think it sometimes to do with the texture of raw fruit and not being able to chew it properly. I wouldnt worry though she seems to be getting enough fruit anyway whether it be steamed, mashed or whatever

both mine were real avocado babies (have you got the book? they grow up big n strong..)

Piffleoffagus · 29/07/2004 10:09

oh yes she does enjoy avocado! I can also chop up tomato in it and she chomps away...

does she drink fruit juice? you could always buy a juicer and put fresh fruit in that way so she would get her quota. i bought a 'easy health juicer' on ebay, new for £25. the bonus is as its see through she will be able to see you making the juice and as she gets older you could let her turn the lever so she is making it herself?

Piffleoffagus · 29/07/2004 10:23

she's not had juice as yet. She loves water so much that I have not bothered, I think I might try and finely mince, raw fruit rather than stewed fruit... and put it in everything,
my little guinea pig girl...

Piffle - my dd is the opposite but a bit older than yours (nearly 3) She loves most fruits but the only veg she'll eat willingly are potatoes and corn. YOur dd sounds like she already eats lots of veg - I don't worry about dd not eating the veg as she eats the fruit.
