Has it stopped? Can we start it up again?

OP posts:
Frazzled74 · 27/01/2018 09:38

I’m in ! Looking forward to it.

Kikashi · 27/01/2018 11:45

Some Mai Pham recipes from t'internet:
www.epicurious.com/contributors/mai-pham

shadowcook.com/2008/03/10/mai-pham-ginger-lime-dipping-sauce-and-warm-beef-on-cool-noodles/

www.foodandwine.com/recipes/pad-see-yew

Should we wait for the OP going to come back and take control or should we agree to say do Mai Pham/vietnamese food for February and Jamie Oliver for March as that seems to be the concensus ? (sorry, not sure of the protocol)

Pantah630 · 27/01/2018 12:08

Think OP already confirmed that upthread. Are we starting from now or Feb 1st? If so need to start a new thread for it then that's what we did before.

Might be an idea to punt around some ideas for March while we wait though. Keen to do HB Mediterranean Adventures here. Smile

Pantah630 · 27/01/2018 12:13

Thanks Kilashi there's lots of recipes on the epicurious link. Grin

Pantah630 · 27/01/2018 12:14

Kikashi Blush

FeedingFrenzy5 · 27/01/2018 13:18

Yes please let's start from 1st Feb. Another idea for March - Plenty More by Ottolenghi. Great book, and I don't think it was on the cookbook club before?

Littlelambpeep · 27/01/2018 13:20

Joining in.. Trying out recipes herd and would love some inspiration

Frazzled74 · 27/01/2018 14:04

Just ordered mai Pham and I already have the JO one.

worriedaboutchristmas · 27/01/2018 14:30

Plenty and plenty more we're both hugely popular choices in the past- and the hairy bikers are another sound choice- their curry book got better mn cookbook club results than madhur jaffery once Shock (early days that one! Before made in India / fresh India knocked the socks off any other options)

EnglishGirlApproximately · 27/01/2018 20:16

Always happy to try more Ottolenghi so I’ll put that in my amazon basket ready for March Grin

KoalasAteMyHomework · 28/01/2018 12:44

As long as we can do some Mary Berry at some point in the year I'm happy haha!
I'm going to start from 1st Feb as thats only next week anyway. Looking forward to being part of this!

worriedaboutchristmas · 28/01/2018 13:05

I have Mary berry's absolute favourites and it's a great book Smile she's always an easy choice for libraries to- most libraries will have her books because she is very popular atm

HairsprayBabe · 29/01/2018 09:41

I would like a Nigella or River Cottage month at some point as I have a few of those and always mean to try them....

Could we have a "vintage" month at some point? As in an old recipe book either from charity shop, family or the library? 70s or earlier? Could be interesting?

EnglishGirlApproximately · 29/01/2018 11:58

hairspray I love the vintage idea. I got a pile of old cookbooks from freecycle but I haven’t really done anything with them yet.

worriedaboutchristmas · 31/01/2018 08:07

I love the vintage idea! Pre 70s is so very different to what we eat now- I have many of my grandmothers old books and it's fascinating how much tastes and recipes have changed!

Should we start a new thread for the official start tomorrow?

PrivateParkin · 31/01/2018 08:19

Hi, I'm in too if I'm not too late? I love the idea of this Smile

indio32 · 31/01/2018 08:26

I'm in if that's Ok?

Looking to vary my diet and do more cooking from scratch which is healthier not to mention cheaper ;)

Blessyourheart · 31/01/2018 08:37

I love this idea too.

I'm in a rut, I batch cook at the weekend and am so bored. I'm even bored by takeaways and need some inspiration for really tasty food.

If anyone has any recommendations for a hearty, comfort food that can be frozen, please share (ragu, cottage pie, chilli and curry).

incywincybitofa · 31/01/2018 08:43

Is February starting in here or will there be a new thread for the book club.
I think I will use Mai Pham recipes off the web for this one

HairsprayBabe · 31/01/2018 08:44

I have a great book, my mum gave me it in a clear out of the house, it is 1983 reprint of a 1960's book, there is a recipe for a savory avocado mousse in it!

Subtleconstraints · 31/01/2018 08:47

I'm in too please, if that's ok? Great idea for a thread!

I have some of my late father's old, gravy-spattered Elizabeth David pbs at home, which are all falling apart.

Interested to investigate Mai Pham... .

FeedingFrenzy5 · 31/01/2018 08:51

Just picked up my copy of JO from the library Smile. Also saw they had Thomasina Miers Home Cook. Anyone got that? Is it any good? I love Mexican made simple. For MB, a friend used to rave about one of her books about prepare ahead cooking, might be worth a try. And vintage.... Sounds intriguing!

Meercat2 · 31/01/2018 08:56

Ooh can I join? Hope I'm not too late. Would love to get some inspiration. Love the idea of Vietnamese for February

Taffeta · 31/01/2018 11:13

Waiting for Mai Pham to arrive.

I’ve been reading through the old MN cookery book club threads for ideas, it’s great stuff. I’ve landed in Smitten Kitchen, which to my horror I’ve had a few years and made only one thing from. Shock

So I made the gooey cinnamon squares which went down a storm, and have the lemon bars in the oven now....

myrtleWilson · 31/01/2018 11:21

Ooh I’d like to join... I had JO but gave it away as didn’t cook anything from it. Will investigate Mai Pham as an keen to learn Vietnamese recipes, in fact wider Asia in general. If we ever do Chinese theme I recommend Fuschia Dunlop “Every grain of rice”
