You can make a nice salad with drained can of chick peas, raw red pepper, red onion, juice of one lime, raw garlic, cumin, salt and lots of fresh coriander.

However, your breath will stink of raw onion/garlic for approximately three months.

Fry some garlic in olive oil, add in tinned toms and chick peas, lemon juice and zest, s&p. Blend some of the mix so some chick peas add bulk to sauce and some are still whole. Cut up some chorizo into bite sized pieces and grill them. Put sauce in bowl, chorizo pieces on top and some fresh chopped coriander. Yummy.

Make them into a curry, don't have a recipe but it involves tomatoes, lemon juice, curry powder or other seasoning. Yummy with chappatis, mango chutney and homemade cucumber raita (cheat with natural yogurt and mint sauce)

I put them into chilli

Kelly1978 · 26/04/2007 16:22

make sure you rinse them really well. I make curry for the kids with them, jsut add onions, a tin of tomatoes, chilli powder, turmeric, cumin and garlic. They lvoe it.

You can also chuck them in with chilli or shepheards pie mixes.

for the falafel, put veg in raw as it gets cooked under grill

this is nice

Chickpea Curry

1 large onion, chopped
1 1/2 tbsp vegetable oil
2 garlic cloves,crushed
1/2 tsp chilli powder
1 tsp ground cumin
1/2 tsp ground coriander
1/2 tsp ground ginger
1 x 400g can chopped tomatoes
1 tbsp tomato puree
2 x 400g can chickpeas
450ml vegetable stock (made with stock cube)

Fry onion in oil until soft. Add garlic and spices and cook for 4-5 mins over medium heat.
Add remaining ingredients and bring to boil, then cover and simmer for 1hr.

could you add chicken to the chickpea curry????

katelyle · 13/05/2007 11:27

Tommy's recipe is lovely - we make it a lot and it's called chickpea gunge. It's really wonderful if you make it quite dry then eat it in warm pitta breads with salad, greek yoghurt and mango chutney. Messy, though!

You can reduce the quantity of any meat curry and put a tin of chickpeas instead - but you sometimes have to bump the seasoning up a bit.

Chuck them into any "main course" salad - they are lovely with vinaigrette.

rinse well and give a bowl to your child(ren) and they eat it like popcorn.
