cooked a chicken curry earlier, consisting of

frying off onions
adding ground coriander
ground cumin
turmeric, mushrooms (to eat them up)
toasted pine nuts
flaked almonds,
chicken boobs slashed up,

and a big dollop of yoghart

but its really horrid

i ploshed some water in it to cook it down, but its not very flavoursome...
help me jazz it up

Got any spinach to chuck in? Or better still an aubergine that you can dice up and fry in lots of lovely oil to add to it? My crap curries often don't have enough fat in!! Also you probably need more spice - chilli would be good.

Snaf · 25/04/2007 17:58

Phone him and tell him to pick up a takeaway on the way home.

Taylormama · 25/04/2007 17:59

add more spices - sounds like the water has diluted them all
If you have some fresh parsely then throw a load of that on as well as some spring onions

princessmel · 25/04/2007 17:59

Aaah how sweet. Wont he just be chuffed that you've gone to such an effort even though its yuk?

No advice by the way. I'm no good at cooking things that are not pasta.

ceolas · 25/04/2007 18:00

I'd go with Snaf's suggestion

cilli powder, lemon juice, teaspoon of sugar, 1/4 teaspoon of salt.
Copped tomatoes always good.
Any fresh herbs? Coriander always good.

Gingerbear · 25/04/2007 18:06

ginger and garlic essential in curry

powder28 · 25/04/2007 18:16

poppadoms, and mix some mint and cucumber in with some natural yoghurt

paulaplumpbottom · 25/04/2007 18:17

put some raisins and dried apricots in the rice

EmilyandLola · 25/04/2007 18:18

how would you ladies cook perfect basmatti?

OP posts:
womblingalong · 25/04/2007 18:22

Rinse basmati in several changes of water, until it runs clear. Cook with double volume of water if in a covered pan, or 2 and half times volume of water to rice if uncovered pan. Add a couple of bruised cardamom pods, a couple of cloves and a cinnamon stick broken up, it will add a lovly aromatic flavour to the rice.

Gingerbear · 25/04/2007 18:26

for 2 people - 2 teacups of rice. Put in a pan with a tight fitting lid. Rinse until clear (cloudy water = starch). Add 3 teacups of water, NO SALT (in our house). Put a layer of tin foil over the top, then put the lid on.
Bring to boil, then lower heat to simmer for about 10 minutes. NO peeking - the water will evaporate and the rice will steam to perfection.

noddyholder · 25/04/2007 18:27

If I muck anything up I usually find stirring a big lump of butter through it puts it right. Not very healthy though

EmilyandLola · 25/04/2007 18:32

added the aubergine 15 mins ago approx, its still hard, o pants

OP posts:
ledodgy · 25/04/2007 18:36
