I'm in love with food 😍 reading about it watching programmes about it learning new things trying new things.

Especially Mediterranean food

Looking for someone else to talk to as no one seems to be as enthusiastic as me lol.

Thank you, I hadn't even thought of markets I may have to take an empty suitcase!

We are in a hotel.

myrtleWilson · 06/01/2018 11:22

MissHemsworth Enjoy Paris! - We went a few years ago and loved it - we were self catering and got into the habit of popping out first thing for our baguette (and then the same in the evening!). We used Lonely Planet app on our phones and it would find nearby restaurants (we found some lovely places that way) - they were star ranked or something (more useful than TripAdvisor we felt). Am not sure if that still exists but it may be worth looking at that as I would imagine the restaurant scene in Paris moves pretty quickly!

I am a big fan of the food. Cook a lot, I think I'm reasonably good at it. I am very into Thai/Vietnamese/Malay food.
On the Shepherd's Pie front, my favourite make is Keema Peas Pie. Obviously only using high quality British reared lamb!

Weedsnseeds1 · 06/01/2018 11:52

misshemsworth a word of caution, French airports tend to believe cheese is a liquid so if you bring any back, make sure you put it in checked in luggage or they'll take it off you.
I was most displeased to discover this as I have packed all sorts of goodies in my hand luggage when flying back from other countries without issue!

My people! I adore good food and everything surrounding it - reading about it, sourcing ingredients, going to excellent restaurants, cooking it, travelling to discover it, and tasting it. Not active on Facebook so I can't be a part of those groups, but in the earlyish days of food forums, I was active on eGullet and it's offshoots, particularly OA. We'd have London meet-ups, usually at Tayyabs and folk like Jay Rayner were regulars. That community has sadly dissipated and my trusted information sites on new places has to constantly evolve now as bloggers drop out.

I have a science background and really enjoy the chemistry angle of cooking and the discovery of different ways to cook traditional foods based on an understanding of the science behind it. I adore Serious Eats and have read the Food Lab cover-to-cover and had a good go at parts of Harold McGee's tome. For the past 8 years, I have been also really into baking - particularly sourdough. It has been fun and sometimes frustrating when things don't work out.

Shepherd's pie was unknown to me growing up as lamb is not often eaten in the US, but I had some appalling versions of cottage pie (which were called Shepherd's pie) in various university canteens. If I thought about it, I might be able to come up with a korean version which could be interesting.

I love scrag end of lamb and neck rings. You rarely see them in a supermarket any more (need a butcher and even then, they often don't have it). Having the bone in makes so much difference to a stew!

BuffBourguignon · 06/01/2018 23:52

I am just rediscovering my love of cooking/food. Regretting Kondoing my cookbooks!!

I've suffered too many low fat/diet recipes/flamin frylight!!! My cooking suffered and I lost my confidence! Amazing the difference butter, double cream and wine can make to a meal!

52 recipes for shepherds pie? Hmm

My recipe is to roast a leg of lamb (note not a leg of cow or lentil) and chop the leftover meat by hand (note dh notices if I cheat and use the food processor) add peas and onion with left over gravy and a spoonful of mint sauce. Top with mashed potato.

End of book on shepherds pies

Sorry shepherds pie man. Grin

BuffBourguignon · 07/01/2018 09:24

What is everyone cooking today?

I had to do my roast a day early due to a short date on the chicken. So I have salmon fillets to use, possibly in a pasta bake with mascarpone, anchovies and capers.

Paranormalbouquet · 07/01/2018 09:26

I’m doing pork belly slices with fennel seed with a side of creamy polenta and wilted spinach.

JustCallMeJanet · 07/01/2018 09:35

I'm planning a beef bourguignon and a spinach and ricotta lasagne for the veggies.

Mominatrix · 07/01/2018 12:22

Helping DH with his New Year's Resolution, so I'm going to do a crispy tofu stir fry for dinner, but it is Epiphany so I am also going to do a Galette des Rois.

I find the usual ones quite dull and try and jazz it up a bit. This year, I'm doing a chocolate almond cream and creme pat filling,

Chewbecca · 07/01/2018 13:48

No roast today, too soon after Christmas so I'm making chicken pie from JO's 30mm, with beans, broccoli and carrots. So not too far from roast dinner. DH considers pasta and rice type meals weekday dinners & I also like to get a lot of veg on the plate on Sundays if I can so this meal fits the bill.

worriedaboutchristmas · 07/01/2018 13:59

Chew - that's one of my favourite chicken pie recipes. Dh loves it.

I'm doing a goulash and rice. We had homemade bread rolls and maple roast bacon for brunch, so don't need loads.

Tomorrow I'm doing a a middle eastern roast duck stuffed with nutty ginger rice (from a brilliant cook book called jewelled kitchen) haven't decided on a veg to go with yet.

foodie456 · 07/01/2018 15:03

@Mominatrix I'd love to get into food science something I've been looking at recently
