I'm in love with food 😍 reading about it watching programmes about it learning new things trying new things.

Especially Mediterranean food

Looking for someone else to talk to as no one seems to be as enthusiastic as me lol.

@foodie456, its funny how people are always so definite about what Shepherd's Pie they like and beef with a crispy/cheesy top is always good! My book has 52 different recipes in it, some are Historical recipes from the UK in the 1700's and 1800's (We are based near London). Other recipes are International versions of the same dish, but many go under different names. The majority of the recipes in the book are my own creation and I have found nothing like them anywhere on the internet. Its a childhood food really, first at School then my Mum made it every week for my brothers and I. If you fancy something different, let me know what flavours you like and I can send you a recipe to try if you wish?

foodie456 · 05/01/2018 16:27

@ShepherdsPieGuy what a fantastic idea I never realised there would be so many different recipes!

That's what amazes me about food you keep learning with it there's so much out there and how different places put their own twist on it!

Fab I'd love a recipe to try out Grin

ny2005
We must know each other, I've been on there for years.
I was at the Glasgow meet a few years ago.
Anyway OP, I adore food, my life revolves around it, my cooking has dropped off a bit recently due to illness and Dd16 not being at home so much but I still read about it.
My friends joke that my house is like a foodbank

Chewbecca · 05/01/2018 17:26

I do love a cottage pie but only make it about once a year. I find it quite pan and time consuming for the outcome, with 3 cooking steps.

Sarahj - lucky boy! My DS would prefer the fillet cooked without the pastry and mushroom though tbh. Rare of course. Where do you buy steak from? I have found DR's to be much better quality and range than the supermarket and cheaper than my butchers (I only buy DR on special offer).

ShepherdsPieGuy · 05/01/2018 17:35

@foodie456, what sort of flavours do you like? I have so many recipes, it would be good to send you once that matches with your food likes :o)

@paranormalbouquet, you should try my Turkey Mince Shepherds Pie! Low in fat, healthy, good old fashioned comfort food and just what the doctor ordered!

ShepherdsPieGuy · 05/01/2018 18:23

@sarahjconnor, I can't show my wife the photos or she be up there trying to set them all free!! She bordering full on veggie, so me making Shepherd's Pies sometimes doesn't go down to well! That said I make a number of different really good Veggie Shepherd's Pies.

foodie456 · 05/01/2018 18:34

@sarahjconnor love the photos 😂

@ShepherdsPieGuy I love quite rich food if I put it with salad I don't feel so bad lol! It would be fun to try something exotic from one of your receptors?!

hello!
just seen this thread - in answer to your question upthread OP - I have the Anna del Conte Gastronomy of Italy - its lovely (Claudia Rhoden Food of Italy is also good and in similar vein) from del Conte we've probably cooked her lamb neck pasta and tuna & prunes the most..

foodie456 · 05/01/2018 23:12

@myrtleWilson lamb neck sounds beautiful do you think the book is worth buying?

OP posts:
myrtleWilson · 05/01/2018 23:19

it is lovely - its quite tangy as it has red wine vinegar in it (although I think we now add more vinegar than she says!!) to be honest I've probably used Claudia Roden's Food of Italy more than Anna del Conte - it is in a similar style - commentary on food and then recipes. CR is divided into regions so you get a sense of the variety of the cuisine across Italy - some food more Germanic etc. The only issue I have with CR is our old paperback copy was falling apart - no problem, I rebought the new hardback re-edition only to find that two of our favourite recipes (ragu alla bolognese and duck with blueberries) didn't make the new edition. Shame! (as Donald Trump would tweet!) Luckily we know the ragu recipe off by heart and managed to find the duck one online (not that its at all complex - in fact its very simple, but sometimes I like to still make sure I'm following the recipe!). So if you had to buy one of them, my recommendation would probably be for CR....
Happy to post the lamb neck recipe if you want Smile

StillSmallVoice · 05/01/2018 23:46

Watching this thread with interest, as I enjoy food and cooking a well.

(Btw IMHO the best shepherd's pie is made with leftover roast lamb)

MissHemsworth · 06/01/2018 00:15

Deffo prefer a cottage pie, in a rich red wine gravy with the creamiest mash toppingSmile

Hope I'm not derailing but me & DH have just booked a couple of days in Paris (never been!) can anyone recommend any foodie places (pref not too posh/touristy) thanks!

Weedsnseeds1 · 06/01/2018 01:55

I love food and cooking. Having contracted some hideous flu type thing, I managed to cobble together fish cakes, potato wedges and beans ( couldn't summon the strength to shop).
OH was really excited "fun food"!
Clearly only me that cares.

Weedsnseeds1 · 06/01/2018 01:59

Oh, misshemsworth there is an amazing market at Bastille.
Are you self catering or hotel?

Mondrian · 06/01/2018 03:48

Food markets in France are such a treat.

Tartyflette · 06/01/2018 10:12

I like a curried shepherd's pie (and yes, it is lamb) as I love Indian flavours. Like a keema curry with a crispy mashed potato topping.
The strangest thing I've ever eaten was goose barnacles at an amazing restaurant in the Basque Country in Spain. Thry looked quite fearsome but tasted gorgeous, like the best clams on earth.
We too keep hens and DH is a fantastic gardener who keeps us well supplied with fruit and veg for a large part of the year.
