Slow Cookers - Are they environmentally friendly?

Apparently they use less energy than a lightbulb, so more efficient to have a casserole in a slow cooker for a few hours than a big heated oven IMO.

I have one, quite big as there are only 3 of us (bought it at john lewis i think and its one of the original crockpots??) anyway I went through a stage of using it loads and it got put away last summer and its been in storage since, definitely use it again in winter tho
