Don't they say to wait till at least 2 for shellfish? Not sure why. I broke protocol and gave ds peanut butter just after 12 months but I'm still waiting on the prawn thing, mostly because both me and dh have mussel allergies.

My ds2 has eaten prawns on numerous occasions - from about 18 months onwards (if not earlier, thinking about it). I can't say that I really considered it a problem. However I have held off giving him mussels - although ds1 who's 3 1/2 has eaten these (and liked them!).

Do crabsticks have any seafood in them anyway???

I thought that apart from peanuts if you have allergies and whole nuts that they could have everything after a year. Obviously you wouldn't want them drowning in junk though. All my books and the HV said that too. My son is 13 months and I gave him prawns a couple of weeks ago. He liked them. I would assume a seafood allergy would be quite extremem and obvious if they did have one.

The recommendations are to wait until they are 2 yrs old for seafood.

where would this be? Its not in the nhs book is it?

hmb · 21/07/2004 20:24

recomedations were two when I had dd in 1997

no allergies in our family so dd has ahd what we have fish wise, she had normal fish from about 9 mths and really loves it, prawns and scallops etc she had at about a yr as we were at the coast and took advantage, no adverse effects but hmmm
crabsticks are pretty cra anyway unless you see them made, more like crab flavoured fish sticks with reformed fish bits... yukky things...
Not sure what the rules are though I tend to make my won really...
