Where can I buy black liquorice strings / laces?

I'm looking for black liquorice strings/laces to use to decorate my dds' birthday cakes. Lots of recipes mention them, but I can't find them anywhere online or in the shops.

Help me please!

The alternative is using writing icing, but I'm not very good at that and the lines come out all wobbly

Try here

Thanks, they have some nice liquorice on that site but I can't see any strings. I am looking for a long thin black string, so I can make a long curvy line. This is the cake I want to make.

there are two pages of things here, any good?

frumpygrumpy · 11/04/2007 23:15

bum, liquorice whips seems to be what you need and there is a note next to them saying the suppliers have changed them into orange whips and that they are trying to source the originals.......

could you unravel a catherine wheel?

hana · 11/04/2007 23:17

what about black piping instead?

fireflyfairy2 · 11/04/2007 23:18

here But it seems to be in dollars!

Will keep looking for a UK site

Unravelling a wheel might work. I don't really want to do piping because I don't have a very steady hand.

You could unravel a wheel and cut vertically down to make thinner laces i've just looked and they only seem to sell the black laces on usa sites.

Ooh, fireflyfairy2's last link is exactly what I'm looking for! Shipping is $39.75 though.
