Never realised how good papaya is for you - here

Lowryn · 16/07/2004 09:37

Oh papaya is easy food for kids. I used to cut it in half, take out the stone and spoon the flesh onto a plate. Add some milk and mash it into a pink mess before spooning into my DD. She loved it.

Can be eaten rae, bo problem at all.

Oh, steam or stew, then mash or puree it = depends on your DS's age.

Personally I can't stand the smell, it's a bit sick-y for me. Give me a mango any day. But yes you can eat it raw, mush it up and freeze it, just treat it like any other soft fruit eg mango. You can microwave it as well if you want to make it sweeter - I think Nigella mentioned it in her book "How to eat".

Bradsmum · 16/07/2004 09:44

Mash it up raw as it is for DS - they love it. For you (because you've got to have some too as it's so good for you) the best way is with fresh lime juice squirted on - yummy!

Have Annabel Karmel's book here and Papaya is in the 4-6 months section:

Papaya is an excellent fruit to give a very young baby. It has a pleasing sweet taste which is not too strong and belnds within seconds to a perfect texture.

Cut a medium fruit in half, remove all the black seeds and scoop out the flesh. Puree, adding a little forumla pr breast milk if you like.

Makes 4 portions

Papaya can be given raw to babies.

It doesn't saw that it can't be frozen.

A little of of lime (preferably) or lemon juice really brings the flavour out.
