Help - meat cooking virgin!

Can anyone tell me what "searing" means? It's to do with cooking chicken breasts ready for roasting in the oven. I'm veggie but will be cooking veggie and meat dishes for Easter day with the IL's (eek!) so need to get it right Thanks in advance.

It means put it in a really hot frying pan with some butter until the outside is golden brown - doesn't matter about the middle as than will be gooked when you roast ti.

Why don't you cook them a nice veggie meal?
They might learn something...

Thanks for the quick replies - I really SHOULD have known but I did fail cookery o' level all those years ago! Moondog, I AM making veggie stuff too which they're happy to eat, but I'm a lone veggie amid a family of COMPLETE carnivores so thought I should cater for both .

that's very noble of you.
I wouldn't cook meat if not a meat eater.

Virgins really need to be panfried, not seared
