I dont think so.
british yeast cookery seems to be particular to the british isles, you cant get such simple stuff abroad.

TwirlyN · 01/04/2007 22:49

I don't really know about Holland, but I think, will stand corrected that the cross symbolizes the Crucifixion (sorry thoughts of 'life of Brian' very quickly come to mind,) so I don't know....do we have any Netherlands Mners?

tribpot · 01/04/2007 22:51

Don't think they do. Although obviously they are familiar with the concepts of Christianity just not our pastry version thereof

hana · 01/04/2007 22:57

I know it's not HOlland, but they are big in Canada which is abroad!

emkana · 01/04/2007 22:58

I doubt it.
Why do you ask?

cos we're off to Holland vv soon, for Easter, and erm, I want to know if I can get my once yearly treat.

I know you can get them in the shops over here for months (I even made them once), but erm, I prefer to stick to Good Friday for my bun.

And I've just realised I may miss out this year, lol.

you could buy and freeze some?

unknownrebelbang · 01/04/2007 23:15

No can do, there's no freezer where we're staying.

Ah well.

unknownrebelbang · 01/04/2007 23:15

Lol, and we're going early doors, so nowhere will be open to buy some and freeze for when we return.

Hi, No they don't have hot cross buns in Holland. There is yummy currant bread, raisin bread, currant buns, without crosses, raisin buns without crosses, easter eggs, little easter eggs in bags, and for Palm Sunday there used to be cockerels in raisin/currant bread, don't know if they are still done. But definitely no hot cross buns.
I am Dutch by birth but have lived in this country for over 30 years now.
Hope it helps

theUrbanDryadsMum · 10/04/2007 20:32

Hi, have you come back from Holland yet? How did you get on with or without your hot cross buns?

unknownrebelbang · 15/04/2007 09:42

Got back yesterday.

No hot cross buns, but plenty of other rather tasty alternatives, so I don't feel I've missed out too much, lol.

Loved Holland.

Sorry I missed this! I live in Holland and could have told you although we don't have HC buns, we have 'krentenbol' which are basically a currant bun, like a HC bun but without the cross

Glad you had a good time!

theUrbanDryadsMum · 15/04/2007 18:13

Where in Holland do you live Oxocube? We are coming twice in the next month, bad planning, but looking forward to it. Very busy the first weekend, but no fixed plans yet for the second week 10-18th May.
