Going to make one but can't be doing with all this boiling of condensed milk in the can for hours...is there another way...can you buy the stuff already done??

Yes you can buy it, it is more expensive, but worth it to cut out the hassle.
Cant remember what its called but its on the shelf near where the condensed is

You can buy a ready caramelised condensed milk in some supermarkets or you can buy a jar of Dulce da Leche (similar thing originally from Argentina).

Big supermarkets also do Dulce de Leche (eg Merchant Gourmet brand) which is basically the same thing - very mainstream Spanish/South American thing, hence name - but not made from condensed milk so doesn't have that tinny flavour Carnation has.

(Depends whether you want the "real" Carnation taste!)
