Plastics taking on the taste of Dishwasher tablets

Have searched for this topic in previous threads and found that most people use the dishwasher for cleaning plastic cups, bowls and spoons. Do you notice how they take on the taste of the dishwasher tablets? Yuck. I pour boiling water over them but smell/taste remains. Any tricks for combating this problem? (I use the Sun 3in1 tabs)

I use Flash Powerballs (they're called something like that). Haven't noticed any taste on my plastics and I am SUPER sensitive to tastes/smells.

reager, have you seen the thread 'changing from formula to cows milk' about this one? Seems some of us are certain the plastic absorbs the detergent, others don't notice anything.

Me I rinse, rinse, rinse. Which, of course, defeats the whole object of using the dishwasher!

also, I've taken to using tabs called ecover, or something. (plant based)

sorry, mine are Finish tabs not flash and I also always put my plastics on the top tray (not sure if it makes a difference).

Thanks for your replies. Read the other thread and it seems some people have / or notice the problem and some don't. It really is a horrible taste and have taken to giving dd water from disposable cup rather than use the smelly beaker as it would be horrible to grow up thinking water tastes like dishwasher detergent! Will try changing brands next.

Like Emmaij, I've noticed the smell from our dishwasher is far more pleasant since we switched to Ecover tabs and rinse aid.
