Quick - help needed re oil dilemma

I am making pizza dough and I need 4 tbsp of extra virgin olive oil - and I've just realised I've only got about 1 tbsp and there's no way I can get to a shop. My other alternatives are:

  • vegetable oil
  • rapeseed oil
  • basil flavoured olive oil

What should I use? I don't think the basil one because the pizza's will taste weird - so which of the other two will be less strong flavoured??

vegetable will be the least strong tasting I think

Thanks TR - Typically when I asked DH he suggested the basil one. Would that tase weird?

but if you have a tomato based sauce the basil one won't be too weird will it?

zippitippitoes · 23/03/2007 18:58

basil one or mix it with vegetable oil..it won't really matter

JoshandJamie · 23/03/2007 18:58

that's what he said - I just sometimes wonder with these flavoured oils whether they don't just end up tasting fake. Typically I'm not just making this for us but for some friends we're having over tomorrow night in a bid to have gourmet pizza - so maybe the basil flavoured crusts would be a new twist...

go for it, if they don't like it tell them they have unsophisticated pallettes! (sp?)

WideWebWitch · 23/03/2007 19:00

basil would be fine in pizza

WideWebWitch · 23/03/2007 19:00

It won;t be very strongly basil

JoshandJamie · 23/03/2007 19:01

right - it's done. A mix of basil and regular olive oil (more basil than regular). Will let you know if I've just created a new eating sensation. thanks for the help
