No recipe but Waitrose I know sell vegetarian "suet" (it's what goes in a lot of mince pies)
So any dumpling recipe using that should work

125g self-raising flower, 60g cheddar (grated), 3tbsp chopped parsley, 60g butter, salt and pepper. Lightly mix together and add 1tbsp water to make a soft dough. Makes 16 walnut-sized dumplings. Immerse in stew for 15-20 mins.

(from Cranks book. Rather tasty if memory serves.)

I suppose you could make a scone type thing instead - I think its called a 'cobbler'. The little scones are put on top of the stew insead of dumplings. I'm not veggie but use veggie suet which is nice and light. All the supermarkets sell it.

that sounds lovely rowan!

75g selfraising flour
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
pinch of salt
20g polyunsaturated marg
2 teaspoons of wholegrain mustard - if wanted
1 tbsp fresh chopped parsley
1/2 tbsp of skimmed milk

sieve flour, baking powder and salt into bowl
rub in marg
add mustard and parsley
add cold water to make soft dough
shape dough into sausage shape and cut into 10cm segments- roll into ball
brush with milk
Stickon stew and cook!

Can't take the credit, unfortunately, but they are nice. The book recommends them with a root vegetable and cider stew.

Sadly, I am having re-heated Quorn and wilted salad tonight.
