What do you eat for breakfast - and where are you from?

I suffer from inspiration failure over breakfasts so am curious what people eat and what they were brought up with.

My DM had Scottish parents (but did not live there) She ate porridge with butter and salt, or mince and peas on toast.

DF grandparents were Russian and they usually had bread with butter and sausage/ fish

I grew up mainly with toast and butter and a glass of milk.

We have usually toast with jam/ nutella or eggs.Rarely to never cereal and pancakes at the weekend. School days DS very often has a ham sandwich in the car as we have a 40 minute drive to school.

Just curious really as I am thinking of making French toast today and realised I have never ever made it in my life!

I like fruit and yogurt with raw jumbo oats on top. In winter I have porridge, sometimes with fruit on top.
At weekends I usually make a bacon sandwich or bacon, egg and tomato on toast. I very occasionally do a full English.
Live in Yorkshire.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/05/2017 10:22

Home assembled muesli. At the moment it has choc chips in it. I don't care that it's the same every day, I just pour and eat and off I go. I'm in the south.

stumblymonkeyreturns · 01/05/2017 10:28

I'm from Staffordshire, now in the South East.

I usually have cereal (cheerios, branflakes or weetabix) and a cup of tea in the week or if I'm in a rush I have a coffee and breakfast oat biscuit things from the train station cafe.

At the weekend I have cereal or peanut butter on toast. Occasionally I have a bacon sandwich.

stumblymonkeyreturns · 01/05/2017 10:29

Or porridge with honey/maple syrup in the winter.

IamMummyhearmeROAR · 01/05/2017 10:30

Scottish born and bred and never heard of anyone eating mince and peas on toast for breakfast or putting butter in porridge - water and salt in porridge would be typical for poor folks like what I is from-so that's an individual taste.
In winter I eat porridge oats with milk and blueberries much to my mothers disdain
In warmer months Weetabix and fresh fruit.

stumblymonkeyreturns · 01/05/2017 10:31

DH is a clean eating PT and so has either a steak, diced chicken breast with Thai spice or smoked salmon and scrambled eggs. Always followed by a handful of unsalted nuts for good fats.

JustBeingJobless · 01/05/2017 10:40

Midlands here. I'm not a big lover of breakfast when I first get up, so usually have a cuppa then late breakfast/early lunch later in the morning; something like scrambled egg on toast, cheesy crumpets etc. On the odd occasion I have it early, it's usually fruit, yoghurt and honey. Ds (11) generally has weetabix, cheerios or toast before school. On a weekend, I'll do a sausage cob or pancakes with bacon and syrup.

HunterofStars · 01/05/2017 10:50

Gloucestershire here. I don't like eating first thing so usually have a coffee with cream and a pinch of cinnamon. Then I have something like baked eggs with bacon diced on top, or a homemade sausage and egg mcmuffin around lunchtime. If I do have breakfast early, I'll have either a croissant or if I'm going to visit family, I'll have toast at Costa with a latte. Very rarely, I'll go to McDonald's for breakfast.

wineusuallyhelps · 01/05/2017 11:11

I have cereal with yogurt and DH has porridge.

DCs usually have eggs and toast, and bacon or baked beans on some days.

They used to have cereal but we had problems with them not being full up for long enough, so were advised by a nutritionist to give them cooked breakfast. The protein keeps them fuller for longer!

Abitcomplex · 01/05/2017 11:13

Toast, or bacon butty.
From up Norf.

MissMooMoo · 01/05/2017 11:19

I'm from Canada and grew up having
Cereal
Toast
Porridge
Pancakes on the weekend with maple syrup and sausages/bacon

Now live in the UK with English husband.
I almost always have porridge in the winter with a tablespoon of maple syrup in it or some greek yogurt and fruit/nuts on top.

DH has
Eggs on toast
Cereal (usually as a starter!)
Kippers
Bacon sandwich
Beans on toast
Full english

crazypenguinlady · 01/05/2017 11:19

Generally on a weekday:
Weetabix with banana or berries
Cereal but I'm quite particular
Porridge in the winter with variety of toppings
In the summer, I love plain (Greek or natural) with berries, nuts and honey. Or a fruit platter with a pot of plain yoghurt.

On the weekends
Toast with jams or marmalade
Brioche rolls
Pastries of some kind
Croissants
Crumpets with jam

We very rarely have cooked breakfasts, unless we're in a hotel. We enjoy it for lunch (weekend) or dinner (weeknight) instead. Live in the UK.

MissMooMoo · 01/05/2017 11:20

Forgot to add peanut butter on toast with sliced banana on top. Mmmm

Lweji · 01/05/2017 11:24

Just whatever cereal is on offer Blush. Don't usually have time to cook anything and it's usually ate at my desk. DD (10 months) has weetabix or porridge.

Only time I have anything cooked is holiday or if I meet DM somewhere. I love cereal though probably could eat it at every meal

DavetheCat2001 · 01/05/2017 11:30

Greek yogurt with frozen mixed berries, honey and flax seeds on top... mmm.

If I'm going for an early run i have a teaspoon of peanut butter and a glass of coconut water.

millifiori · 01/05/2017 11:43

Almost everyday - muesli with natural yoghurt and berries.
Sometimes croissants or toast, home made porridge, ready mixed ginger porridge or plain cereal like Shredded Wheat.
Nearly always carbs. The idea of eating protein at breakfast makes my stomach turn.

Brought up in NE England and now live in SE.
