I suffer from inspiration failure over breakfasts so am curious what people eat and what they were brought up with.

My DM had Scottish parents (but did not live there) She ate porridge with butter and salt, or mince and peas on toast.

DF grandparents were Russian and they usually had bread with butter and sausage/ fish

I grew up mainly with toast and butter and a glass of milk.

We have usually toast with jam/ nutella or eggs.Rarely to never cereal and pancakes at the weekend. School days DS very often has a ham sandwich in the car as we have a 40 minute drive to school.

Just curious really as I am thinking of making French toast today and realised I have never ever made it in my life!

Russia. Bread and cheese and cucumbers and tomatoes in the week. Sometimes smoked trout or salmon and cucumbers or boiled eggs, bread and cucumbers. Tea - strong and black.
Traditional should be porridge in the morning but hate washing up.
Sunday is pancakes and keta (red) caviar.

luckycatclover · 01/05/2017 08:37

Boiled egg on toast is a solid one for me!

Porridge & berries in winter too. Or yogurt & granola if I fancy.

MrsPear · 01/05/2017 08:41

I live in the uk with English heritage. I usually grab toast or fruit cake and tea. 😳
H British Albanian similar to what he grew up - bread, cheese which is host or sheep, yogurt - not fruit it is extra thick no sugar and quite sharp [Turkish yogurt is the closest in the uk] and salad bits like tomoto and cucumber. Usually drinks milk. Sometimes fried eggs - hens not always vaccinated back home so for safety well cooked.

Our children are offered a combination of the two plus cereal or porridge.

I've taken to eating tarka dal for breakfast lately, sometimes with a small piece of flatbread, sometimes not. I'm from Hampshire. I go in phases - one thing for months and months, then I change. Previously it's been muesli, or toast, or pistachio nuts. If there's dinner leftovers I'll eat those.

RitaMills · 01/05/2017 08:55

Porridge, honey and banana
Poached eggs and toast (sometimes with bacon)

Scotland

onemorecakeplease · 01/05/2017 08:57

North Scotland

RhinestoneCowgirl · 01/05/2017 08:58

UK

Muesli with Greek yogurt and fruit.

Porridge in the summer.

Magicpaintbrush · 01/05/2017 09:03

A buttered crumpet with fruit (grapes/ strawberries or an apple). At the weekend I might have scrambled egg followed by an apple. If we have run out of crumpets I have muesli.

Prior to trying to eat a bit more healthily breakfast was two buttered crumpets slathered in peanut butter (no fruit!)

But this all goes out of the window if dh comes home with hot cross buns - I can't resist those for breakfast, but am trying to avoid bread so it's an occasional treat.

Magicpaintbrush · 01/05/2017 09:04

Sorry, meant to add am in S.E England.

soupplate · 01/05/2017 09:05

UK

Usually
Muesli or bran flakes with fruit and plain greek yoghurt
Porridge with about 1/4 tsp brown sugar

Rare treat
Toast with mushrooms/avocado
Toast with peanut butter
Bread and butter pudding
Fruit crumble with milk
Kipper and poached egg

Used to often travel back and forth to Australia and loved breakfasts on SE Asian airlines, Singapore or Malaysia because they used to serve things like beef rendang or kapitan chicken for breakfast. Far better than plastic sausage and rubbery egg.

fussychica · 01/05/2017 09:09

Homemade muesli, fresh fruit and natural yoghurt.
Occasionally, buttered teacake or bun or croissant and marmalade, or smoked salmon and scrambled egg. Even more rarely a fry up.
Freshly squeezed orange juice if oranges in season here and a cup of Earl Grey tea.

Originally from east London. Raised on cornflakes (yuck) or toast.

pinkmagic1 · 01/05/2017 09:09

I generally eat muslei with yoghurt and fruit and sometimes toast and jam. Growing up it was generally cereal with maybe a cooked breakfast once a month or so. I live in the East Midlands.
DH who is originally from Egypt normally has an omelette sprinkled with salt and cumin, accompanied by pickles. Kids like cereal in the week and Nutella pancakes at the weekend.

kel1493 · 01/05/2017 09:09

londonpia · 01/05/2017 09:26

Breakfast during the week for DC is normally toast and jam or peanut butter. Occasionally DS2 would eat cereal. On days I work if I were organised breakfast would be crisp bread and cottage cheese or yogurt and berries. Lazy days would be a pain aux croissant BlushDH would either have cereal, or if he has an early start he would miss breakfast and have a bigger lunch.

Weekends- croissants if we are in a rush or bacon and egg sandwich if we are having a leisurely day.
