What do you eat for breakfast - and where are you from?

I suffer from inspiration failure over breakfasts so am curious what people eat and what they were brought up with.

My DM had Scottish parents (but did not live there) She ate porridge with butter and salt, or mince and peas on toast.

DF grandparents were Russian and they usually had bread with butter and sausage/ fish

I grew up mainly with toast and butter and a glass of milk.

We have usually toast with jam/ nutella or eggs.Rarely to never cereal and pancakes at the weekend. School days DS very often has a ham sandwich in the car as we have a 40 minute drive to school.

Just curious really as I am thinking of making French toast today and realised I have never ever made it in my life!

Porridge with apple and a dollop of fromage frais or yoghurt on top. Or boiled egg with 2 slices of toast.

Sunday, potato waffles, bacon, eggs and tomatoes, husband cooks that.

NapQueen · 01/05/2017 07:56

Weekdays a cereal bar with a cup of tea at my desk at work.

Weekends tea and toast (todays topping is Philadelphia). Or eggs and bacon with a cup of tea.

North East.

Russian DH grew up eating whatever was left over from supper the night before, for breakfast. Nowadays it's usually porridge with honey in winter and muesli or toast with cheese/pate in summer. Fried eggs on weekends.

missyB1 · 01/05/2017 07:59

Im in the South west.

Bran flakes / muesli/ porridge

Have got waffles for the kids being off 2 days this week.

Crunchymum · 01/05/2017 08:06

London with London parents.

We have cereal or toast. Try to give the youngest porridge (older DC won't eat it and I don't like it)

Probably bacon or sausage sandwiches one day of the weekend and maybe a full English once every few months.

I am not a breakfast fan to be honest and have never been excited by it as a meal.

Camomila · 01/05/2017 08:07

Work days I have porridge with berries and a coffee first thing (6am) then a cup of tea and packet of belvita biscuits when i get in to work (8.30am)

Am Italian living in England and tbh I think English breakfast foods are better/more choice.

In Italy i'll have a cappucino and a brioche in a cafe/hotel or warm milk/cup of tea and fette biscottate with jam if i'm at my nonnas. I'm always starving by lunch time.

Crunchymum · 01/05/2017 08:07

Grew up with very similar to what I do now (very boring breakfast despite my mum's attempts to make it more exciting!)

jarhead123 · 01/05/2017 08:09

Fruit, yogurt or cereal for me.

Toast, cereal, fruit, yogurts, croissants etc for the kids. (not all at once!)

Occasional bacon or sausage sarnie

EggysMom · 01/05/2017 08:10

I always have cereal with milk; if it's the weekend, I'll follow an hour later with toast and peanut butter.

Littl'un always has weetabix with milk and then a slice of toast.

OH has a coffee.

SlowLifeLove · 01/05/2017 08:10

Smoothie, strong black coffee, and a small bowl of grain-free muesli.

choochooo · 01/05/2017 08:10

My DS (21 months) has weetabix and toast every morning and gets very excited about it!

Weekends poached eggs on toast or bacon sandwich typically. If Ive got time I really like toast with a little pile up on top ie egg, 2 rashers, mushrooms, beans.

allegretto · 01/05/2017 08:13

Toast with marmite or salami
Granola/muesli or similar and milk
Cappuccino and pain au chocolat at a bar (twice a week)
Mcmuffin (about 6 times a year)
Pancakes and bananas (about once a month)
Full English (about 3 times a year)
Kippers (about twice a year)
Leftover crumble/puddings etc - when available!

Libitina · 01/05/2017 08:13

Porridge usually. Sometimes crunchy nut cornflakes. Occasionally, Mcdonalds sausage and egg bagel.

chocatoo · 01/05/2017 08:14

Cup of tea with toast and marmite in the week. Bacon or sausage baguette at the weekend, or eggs/tomatoes/mushrooms on toast. Favourite is smoked salmon and cream cheese on bagels or croissants but they are treats. NW UK.

allegretto · 01/05/2017 08:14

I am British living in Italy.

SallyGinnamon · 01/05/2017 08:17

I grew up having cereal. What I WANT is toast with butter and marmite.

But I'm having skimmed milk porridge with banana or 0% Greek yogurt and fruit because I'm on weight watchers Sad.

Nothing.

Lunch at 1pm is first meal. Nothing between 8pm until 1pm next day. Feel good this way.
