is cutting back hard on milk, so i need milky milky things to make. will all be with goats milk/cream (i found goats milk double cream in waitrose)...has anyone got a recipie (sp?) for rice pudding. or any other milk puddings for that matter. don't mind if they contain some sugar (hv, fwiw, has advised high calorie foods as he is crawling v fast and cruising and pulling himself up relatively early and burning all his calories and dropping a bit on centiles...i think it's all nonsense, but does mean that i don't feel i have to worry about bit of sugar etc.) thanks x

Rice Pudding
For 6 to 9 months.

1 cup cooked rice
1 cup warmed milk
Couple drops vanilla extract
1 tablespoon granulated sugar

Combine all ingredients. Cook very gently for 10 minutes until the rice is heated through. Check the temperature before serving

Hi there. I make rice pudding exactly as it says on the back of the pudding rice packet - seems to have a higher ratio of milk to rice compared with mn recipe. I don't generally add sugar but serve with fruit puree instead. I don't know if you are 'supposed' to but I do freeze it in portions. It works fine. ds2 is 7 months.
Other ideas - custard? blancmange? (not tried these myself as a bit of an anal anti sugar person) Lots of variations on white sauce? (cheese sause, white sauce with added mushrooms, or tomato, or with tuna). Half the stuff I give ds2 seems to be based on milk....

ps cheese sauce and all variants freeze really well in ice cube trays.

Flaked rice pudding is nice, and its easy to do in the microwave. Just combine 1 pint milk, 2oz flaked rice and 1oz sugar in large bowl. Cook on power level 8 for 14 minutes (my microwave is 650 watts and power 8 is one down from full) Stir a couple of times during cooking (if you remember) You could freeze it but it is delish!

Semolina pudding is nice too, but you have to do that in a saucepan.

Agy, excuse my ignorance but what is 'flaked rice'? I like your recipe and would like to try it for DS and DD.

has anyone used formula milk to make these rice puddings?

woodpops · 24/11/2004 13:33

I used to make a normal rice pudding (without sugar) but with full fat cows milk and stir in a fruit puree. DD used to like apple, pear or plum.
