Veggie burgers

I wanted to make veggie burgers as I find processed ones pretty yuck and full of unspeakable stuff. I had a recipe that used vegemince: no idea what that is so I used Quorn but it didn't stick together, so it was more veggie-savoury-mince in a bun. Anyone got any recipes that work in a way that mine clearly doesn't?

Have you tried using beans instead of meat substitute? Whizzed up kidney beans, onion, peppers and herbs with an egg to bind it together?
Sorry can't be more help at the moment! Good luck

Did the recipe you used have egg in it? I think that would be a good thing to bind it all together. If it already had egg, add more!

Vegemince is just what it says! It's mince made with soya - you can find it in the freezer section at Tesco, if you want to - IME it's pretty unpleasant. DS2 is curently working his way through a batch of veggie shepherds pie I made with it and certainly not eating with as much relish as usual!

Yes, there was 1 egg in the recipe, and I added another, but it still fell apart.

maisystar - am waiting with baited breath...

(must get a life!)

oh bugger, have been caught out!!!

didn't have time to make them, ds is having aunt bessies yorkies, peas and sweetcorn

any way this is the recipe-it's from a lorraine kelly book my sister has-seems to be not any veg in them which is a bit odd but i was planning to add sweetcorn, courgette etc.

1 tbsp olive oil
1 small onion finely chopped
4 oz red lentils
400ml vegie stock(made by yourself obivously )
1 tsp curry powder
3 oz breadcrumbs (wholemeal)
olive oil for brushing

preheat oven to gas 6

heat oil in large pan, cook onion for 3 mins, stir in curry powder and cook for further 1 min

add lentils and stock-bring to boil and simmer for 20-25 mins

allow to cool slightly then mix into breadcrumbs

shape into 4-6 burgers

brush with oil and bake for 7-10 mins

can be kept for 24 hrs in fridge
4 weeks in freezer

might do them for lunch tomorrow, ds can help with the bread crumbs!
