I like this bit
"Quorn is made from the soil mold Fusarium venenatum strain PTA-2684 (previously misidentified as the parasitic mold Fusarium graminearum). The fungus is grown in continually oxygenated water in large, sterile fermentation tanks. "

yum yum

northerner · 10/03/2007 17:42

A vegi friend opf mine served up vegi lasagne yesterday made with quorn mince.

I'd rather have minced beef any day.

yep, it's mushroom protein. jolly good stuff for veggys, but no good for vegans as it has egg in it. they have a web site believe it or not!

Iota · 10/03/2007 17:43

mushroom is a rather generous name for it IMHO

nickytwotimes · 10/03/2007 17:47

honestly, it's nice! look, us veggies have to eat SOMETHING so we don't fade away. must go now-weak from typing!

Iota · 10/03/2007 17:48

also from Wiki:

The CSPI, observing that while a mushroom is a fungus, fusarium is not a mushroom, and they quipped, "Quorn's fungus is as closely related to mushrooms as humans are to jellyfish."

and yes I have eaten quorn

themoon66 · 10/03/2007 17:50

I quite like it.

Iota · 10/03/2007 17:54

I never said it was horrible , I was just giving Northerner the facts

I loooove blue cheese and that's mould [shrug]

bubblerock · 10/03/2007 18:18

I'm not veggie but I hate mince, so use quorn instead. I fed it to the stepkids at half term and they didn't notice.

I really like Quorn and use the "chicken" fillets in fajitas, the mince in chili & lasagna etc

DH likes the fajitas, but isn't as keen on themince
