Boiling/poaching chicken...good idea?

Has anyone ever tried this? I thought it would save turning the oven on, as I plan on doing mash, rather than roast potatoes. Will it be moist or will it be 'squeaky'?! How long should I cook 3 chicken breasts for and should I be adding them to a pan of cold or hot water? TIA

Poaching chicken breasts works really well and keeps them lovely and moist. Hey and is very helathy. I tend to throw them in a big pan with boiling water and let them simmer for about 35-40 mins.

i have also been know to simmer them in milk which tends to make the chicken creamy, moist and very scrummy, perfect for drumsticks etc.

you can get creative and throw in a chopped onion etc which adds instant flavour.
