DD1 adores playing with dough and all she does is make pastry balls when we try to make jam tarts, so thought this might be the solution - ?

shortbread is pretty resilient - my dd (also 3) makes lovely dog turd shapes with it that no-one else will eat

but she loves doing it!

4oz butter
4oz caster sugar
1 egg beaten
a few drops of vanilla essence
10oz plain flour
pinch of salt

(oven at 190C)

Beat butter and sugar till blended. Add the egg and vanilla essence till mixed and then the flour. Mix till in a ball (this can take a while and it may look like it won't go into a dough but it will!) and then roll out and cut out shapes (or roll into balls).

Cook for 8-10min (keep an eye on them because if you make small shapes, they cook quicker and big shapes can take longer iyswim)

(oh and I normally soften the butter first and use a large egg)

(roll into balls and then flatten I meant to say)

should also say franch that I normally ice those biscuits (well I let the children ice them ). Just plain icing sugar and water (and any colouring you like). They ice very well once cooled down.
