It looked very much like a Jerusalem artichoke but much bigger. They didn't have any swede for my very-needed-all-been-ill chicken soup , so Ive experimented and tried something else!!!

Its sort of parsnipy potatoey ?????????

celeriac?

Kelly1978 · 01/03/2007 15:59

well this is celeriac and {http://www.silsoe.cranfield.ac.uk/iwe/research/cassava.gif\this} is cassava. I think cassava looks more like jerusalem artichoke.

Kelly1978 · 01/03/2007 15:59

cassava

melsy · 01/03/2007 16:05

looked similar , but longer and doesntn taste very celery like.

melsy · 01/03/2007 16:07

i was told in shop to break it rather than cut , oherwise it goes soggy????

OP posts:
Kelly1978 · 01/03/2007 16:08

hmm, defo not cassava then, you practically need a bloody hacksaw for that, no chance of breaking it.
I can picture soem things, but not sure what they are!

melsy · 01/03/2007 16:19

might have to phone them , its going to bug me now , even though Ive used it already.

See I keep feeling the celeriac thing lol, but it tastes really really plain. Theres no mistaking celery taste.

kohl-rabi? Or cardoon?

Greeves · 01/03/2007 16:26

kohl rabi

aDad · 01/03/2007 16:34

hmmmm dont think it's kohl-rabi as they're greeny and have tentacle like bits sticking out of the side. And you wouldn't be able to break it.

Dont know cardoon - isn't that a squash-like thing?

intriguing!

aDad · 01/03/2007 16:36

it does sound like yam but that doesn't begin with C

melsy · 01/03/2007 16:37

it is isnt aDad !

OP posts:
melsy · 01/03/2007 16:39

aDad · 01/03/2007 16:55

calabrese looks broccoli like though

bossykate · 01/03/2007 16:57

aDad · 01/03/2007 17:01

aDad · 01/03/2007 17:02
