Is Quorn ok?

My dd (4) likes the taste of ham and asks for it in her sandwiches but then spends ages picking the 'skinny bits' as she calls it off. I've started giving her Quorn 'ham' instead which she eats happily..just wanted to know if the Quorn will give her the protein she needs which she would have got from the meat? She eats white meat, but I would prefer if she ate meat substitute instead. (I eat do eat some meat but try to limit.)

Would this be safe and healthy or could it affect her growth?

Thanks!

It's fine at age 4. It's very high in protein so it's a good alternative to meat, but it's also very low in fat which is why it's not so suitable for a younger child.

Should have thought it would be fine. I sometimes give my kids Quorn fillets for dinner with veg instead of chicken and they all like them

Thanks Helen, and no derogatory effects? She eats quite a lot of dairy, nuts and stuff so I think she gets fat that she needs.

I would quite like both her and I to go completely meat free, to be honest as I can't bear to tell her where it comes from. That's just me being soft though I know.

It's perfectly safe. There always used to be some information on the Quorn website about the nutritional values of Quorn - let me have a look and see if I can find it.

We're big fans of Quorn here. You can adapt loads of chicken recipes by using Quorn pieces or fillets. The sausages with Bramley apple are delicious, and one of the kids' favourite meals is cottage pie made with Quorn mince.
