Is my baby too skinny ?

Coudn't resist when I saw the other "too chubby" thread. I have just seen relatives who have said "MY GOD SHE IS SKINNY!"
People often think DD is younger than she is (10 mo)... Granted I have not had her weighed - I just checked Oh Horrors ! in 4 months - but at 31 weeks she was 14.8 lbs (6.6 kg).

She is just above the 2 centile line !!!

BTW She will be weighed next Tuesday as she is going to the surgery anyway.

Just re-checked - not weighted in 3 months... not as bad

My 2nd dd fluctuates between 2nd-9th, 25th on a good run. She's 2 and a right skinny ribs especially when compared to dd no.1 who was a barrel at 2. I've given up worrying I have to say, you can't force food in them and, in the end they eat what they need (if offered a reasonable diet). I was obsessd by her weight, as she was born with a cleft palate that wasn't found for 10 days, during which she lost ALOT of weight I now keep track of when I can find our scales! There was a point when she adamantly refused to let hv weigh her, but would happily stand on the dog scales at the vets!!! The only thing I do alot is pile in the milk, and leave her to it now. It had an effect on the whole family and made meal times hard if I was watching every mouthful. Try not to be too concerned, we can't all be average.

I've got a skinny ribs too! She sticks to the 2 centile with amazing accuracy and my HV comments every time that 'she is going to be a small baby' like its an disease which really winds me up. Still shes been rolling about since she was 4 mths (4.5 mths now) so there cant be much wrong. I dont think she looks skinny and BF babies are meant to be lighter and as I top the scales at a massive 9 stone (half a stone heavier than i was pre pegnancy) what does anyone expect?

I've got one going that way too - born on 91st percentile, now down to 25th and still dropping, but going up on the height charts (now 98th percentile). But.... he's happy, healthy and very active, and developmentally well ahead (crawling b4 7 months, walking at 9) so I guess it just means he's destined to be a basketball player or a longjumper rather than a sumo wrestler. I think I'm less worried about it than the HV's are though.

Ive just added a message on the "chubby" thread and then noticed this thread, my dd is 4 1/2 and weighs just 27 lb she is now below the lowest centile, she is due to start school in sept and im finding it near impossible to find her a uniform, alot of her clothes are 18 to 24 months she has no waist so buying trousers is impossibe.Yet my oldest ds is 6 years old and has to wear clothes for a 8/9 year old and wears a size 3 1/2 shoe. There is two years between them yet it looks more like a 6 or 7 year gap.

My little one is tiny too, but just don't bother getting her weighed - last done at her 9 mth check (she's now 13 mths). Just figure Kate Moss's mum probably had the same concerns - look at her now!

When my DS was born the words "thin baby" were written in his notes! He was born on the EDD and weighed 7½lbs (3.4kg) - perfectly average I thought - although he was tall at 55cm. I thought he was muscular rather than thin, and he piled on weight rapidly, eventually 20lbs at 5 months.

His weight has fluctuated enormously, when he was 2 he went on "hunger strike" and lost 1kg in 2 months and looked starved. Now, at 3¼ he's a perfectly respectable 16.6kg and 102cm.

can i add my dd to the tiny baby club!?

born at 5lb 11oz and stayed tiny all the way through... now 11 months and last weighed about a month ago and she was 15lb 11oz (i think!) still fits 3-6 month clothes and there only seems to be 6-12 months clothes out there now! she's in a real in betweeny stage in clothes... everyone comments on how tiny she is... petite they say and think that she's such a tiny tot... which i don;t mind... they all think she's about 7 months and very advanced!!!

mandy - i cant beleive they wroth thin baby when he was over 7lbs! My baby was 6lb13,1/2ozs and she kept weighing her and then went and looked at the other newborns because she didnt beleive she weighed that much!
