Nigella Recipe Question

I have the Nigella feast book and I want to make the custard cream hearts for Valentines.
Has anyone attempted them are they any good?
and two what is Veegetable shortening?

I made them one year and, I hate to say this, but they weren't great. They tasted good but they weren't like bought ones (which imo are MUCH better ). They do look pretty though.

Not sure what vegetable shortening is - I think I probably used something like Trex (is that veggie?)

Yep, Trex is veg shortening. I've also heard the custard creams aren't brilliant.
