DS2 has been drinking from the avent anyway up cup since 5 months or so - he seems fine with it, but its only for water, he still has his milk from the bottles

We introduced DD to a cup from about 4.5 months. We used a Doidy cup rather than a beaker. I found all those non spill beakers a nightmare - you have to suck really hard to get anything out. The Doidy cup was fab

another vote for doidy cups - i had one as a child and ds loves it but does need help

we used an avent cup most when he was young, but a normal beaker 0 not non spill - as soon as he was able to use it

Where can you get the doidy cups?

I got the Anywhere cup because I though it was easier to clean but I still don't know how DS can take something out of it...

popsycal · 14/06/2004 20:37

on the bickiepegs website

Ds has just started with his doidy cup. Very messy, but at least he'll drink a bit... we 've been through 4 other sippy cups. BTW, our HV says that speech experts are now advising against sippy cups, as it makes babies use their tongues as if sucking a teat, and this can lead to speech probs in later years. But maybe the experts all have shares in bickiepegs, as I used a sippy cup and have no problems talking!!!

Hi - Recommended as soon as baby can hold items that's the time to give him/her a cup to play with and the Heinz three in one cup is very good - not good to give a baby a non-spill cup as they don't learn the right sipping action - have heard of Doidy cup from health visitor in Berkshire area and is recommended but I saw Heinz one which has fantastic soft handles and drinking section which is so good for baby to grasp. HOpe this helps. x

do doidy cups have lids? at what age don't they need a cup/beaker with a lid on?

clary · 14/10/2004 09:29

no lid on a doidy cup, the idea is to encourage them to sit andhave a drink (rather than wandering about holding one iyswim).

My dd dropped lids altogether at about 18mo but i think that's early; ds2 is 18mo and would certainly spill.

My ds is 6 months old and i've tried him with the avent magic cup and the heinz baby basics cups and he really does'nt like them, but i'm going to keep bringing them out!
